Buvneet Madan

GSO awardee in Developing Skilled Future Leaders in Strengthening Health and Social Systems (2024)

Buvneet Madan is a South Asian Punjabi woman born and raised in Saskatchewan, currently pursuing an Honours Health Science degree in the Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization program at McMaster University. An advocate for women's health, she has volunteered at the Women's College Hospital and hosted feminist radio shows on CFCR's FIRE (Feminist Intersectional Radio Education). As the founder of a Menstrual Equity Campaign in Saskatoon, she successfully advocated for free access to menstrual products in public schools. Buvneet’s research includes exploring paternal contributions to fetal development and investigating the role of microbiota in placental function during pregnancy, as part of her thesis at the Sloboda Lab. She also served as the president of The Women's Network at McMaster University for two years, is a SHAD alumna. 

As a Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) awardee, Buvneet will engage in a virtual internship with The George Institute for Global Health India on a project advocating for Kenyan sex workers. Buvneet hopes that this experience will aid in a career in public health, with a focus on women's health justice and equity, particularly addressing healthcare disparities experienced by immigrant and racialized women.
