Carlos Pinzón-Flórez

Deputy Director of Health Technology Assessment
Carlos Eduardo Pinzón-Flórez is the Deputy Director of Health Technology Assessment at the Instituto de Evaluación Tecnológica en Salud (IETS) in Colombia. His experience in research relates to methods innovation, performance of health systems, evaluation of quality of health services, construction and validation of indicators for access, utilization and coverage of health services. His PhD work in these areas has helped to build scientific evidence through processes such as systematic reviews of the literature, clinical practice guidelines and health technology assessments on specific topics. In the administrative field, he has administered clinical research centres and provided administrative support to research processes for different academic entities. He has been a professor of epidemiology, health systems research and public health and methodological adviser for research in different projects.
 
Carlos will spend six weeks based at the McMaster Health Forum as part of a hands-on learning experience in the field of evidence-informed policymaking, stakeholder engagement, and patient-oriented research. During this time, he will receive training and access to staff support and Forum materials. He will also be working independently on developing a social value and public and patient engagement framework in HTA.
 
Pinzón-Flórez is a physician from the Universidad del Rosario and received a master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and a Doctor of Health Systems Research from the National Institute of Public Health of México.
