Mijia Murong

Mijia is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, specializing in Global Health. At McMaster she is deeply involved in equity-based programming and services, where she works on advocating for anti-oppressive practices and uplifting marginalized voices. These experiences help to inform her research on building the capacity of health systems to support the integrated needs vulnerable sectors, such as immigrants or seniors. Since starting her employment at the Impact Lab, she has been thinking about strategies to close the evidence to policy gap, in all aspects of her work.

As an outgoing QE scholar, she will be traveling to Makerere University in Uganda to complete an internship with the Regional East African Community Health (REACH) Policy Initiative. Specifically, she will be evaluating the attributes and impact of a capacity building program in knowledge translation, through qualitative methodology. Through this work, Mijia hopes to gain some insight into the theoretical foundation behind KT activities, as well as how academic and policy-making institutions can work together to effect change in a health system.
