Rhonda Boateng
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2016)Rhonda is pursuing her Master’s of Science in Global Health under the supervision of Dr. Harry Shannon. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Pre-Medicine with a minor in Business Administration from Bishop’s University. Rhonda’s fascination with international development, management, health and research has led her to work on education and health-related projects in Haiti and Ghana. Her research interests are focused on non-communicable diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on mental health disorders and breast cancer.
As an outgoing Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Rhonda will travel to Ghana where she will be investigating the mental health, quality of life and life experiences of Ghanaian women living with breast cancer. During her work with the Forum, she hopes to build her knowledge in health systems strengthening in an effort to apply the knowledge learned from her thesis to improving the health systems in Canada and Sub-Saharan African countries.
