Sung Min (Steven) Cho
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2017)Steven is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences specializing in Child Health. He developed an interest in using evidence to implement health system policies that can improve youth health from his experience directly working with adolescents. Steven’s additional interests include population genomics, health economics and pediatric clinical research.
As an outgoing Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Steven will be traveling to Trinidad and Tobago to intern at the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). Steven will be developing a repository of policy and legislation related to non-communicable and vector borne diseases for the EvIDeNCe portal. During this process, he will plan for and participate in regional consultations to develop the selection criteria for harvesting pertinent documents. Moreover, he will be implementing a knowledge transfer plan with specific evidence-informed messages related to improving healthy diets. Through his internship, Steven hopes to gain an appreciation for collective response to strengthening and reorienting the health system to address public health challenges in the Caribbean region.
