Tomas Pantoja

Tomas Pantoja is a family physician who has been a faculty member at Pontificia Universidad for 15 years. He currently focuses his research on the use of evidence in practice and policy environments, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. He holds a Teasdale-Corti Global Health Leadership Award from the International Development Research Centre, which supports his efforts to enhance capacity for evidence-informed health policymaking in Chile and in Latin America more generally. He also holds a Fellowship in Monitoring and Evaluating Knowledge-Translation Platforms and directs the Methodology Centre for Systematic Reviews, both of which are funded by the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research.

He has previously been involved in research to develop tools and methods to evaluate the quality of care in general medical practice in Chile, and has led several projects to design and evaluate strategies to change clinical practice in primary care.

During his visit with the McMaster Health Forum, Tomas will take part in a two-day dialogue on engaging civil society in supporting research use in health systems.

In addition to his medical qualifications earned at Pontificia Universidad, Tomas holds a Master of Science in Health Management from Imperial College, London.
